Tips For Choosing The Right Granite Company

Home & Garden Blog

Granite countertops have been one of the most popular choices for kitchens and bathrooms for a long time for a number of reasons. This natural stone is beautiful, durable, and comes in a variety of colors and styles to suite any aesthetic. Granite countertops are not cheap, but they are usually a great investment that improves the look of any room that they are installed in. However, it is important to carefully choose a granite company to fabricate and install your new granite countertops. Use the following tips to help you with the process of buying granite countertops and having them installed:

Get a Comprehensive Quote

Everyone likes a good deal, but don't automatically choose a granite company that offers the lowest price per square foot. It is very important to get several comprehensive quotes before you decide which granite company to work with. Some granite companies will offer a low cost per square foot, but charge extra for edge profiles, cutouts for the sink and cook top, granite sealer, and installation. It is much better to look at a comprehensive quote when choosing a company instead of just the advertised cost per square foot.

Pay attention to the Granite Grade

There are several grades of granite, and it is important to pay attention to these grades when purchasing new countertops. Commercial/builder grade granite is usually the cheapest granite available, but it can have pitting, veins, or blotches that can diminish the beauty of the granite. It is best to buy granite that is at least standard grade, but premium grade is preferred.

See What Your Buying

When you purchase granite countertops, you select what you want from small samples. After you make your selection, a slab of granite is fabricated into the countertops that will be installed in your home. Since granite is a natural stone, each slab will have variations and no two slabs are exactly the same. Before your countertops are fabricated, take the time to see the granite slab in person. This will ensure that there are no surprises, such as pitting or color variation, that you don't like when the countertops are installed in your home.

Ask to See Past Work

You should always ask a granite company to see photos of their installed work and ask for references. A skilled granite installer, such as Granite & Marble Depot, understands how to install granite countertops to ensure that the seams blend perfectly. An inexperienced granite installer won't know how to line up the seams correctly, which can make the countertops look odd after they are installed.
